Hawks nab Tzaneen policeman for theft of assault victims’ compensation money

A policeman is expected to appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate's Court on Friday, 2 August on charges relating to theft.

LIMPOPO – A 43-year-old Detective Constable, stationed at the Tzaneen Police Station, was arrested for theft by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team on Wednesday, 31 July.

Provincial Spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke explained that the official reportedly received R10 000 from a court mediation team in March this year, meant as compensation for two assault victims.

“Instead of giving the money to the victims, the man allegedly took R3 000 for himself and gave them the remainder. The Hawks were entrusted with the investigation and a warrant of arrest was authorised,” Maluleke said.

The policeman is expected to appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges relating to theft.
