POLOKWANE – The Municipality are warning job seekers of yet another scam running under their name.

“The matter is receiving urgent attention from the municipality and other law enforcement agencies. It should also be worth noting that the municipality does not use brokers for recruitment as some victims indicated that they had applied via brokers. Applications for Polokwane Municipal posts are hand-delivered or sent via post and all posts are advertised in local newspapers, social media pages (Twitter and Facebook) and municipal notice boards,” he explained.

Job seekers can identify scams in the following ways:
• Receiving an invite to an interview via SMS. Selala says the Municipality does not use SMSs to invite applicants for interviews;
• You are requested to call the sender on their mobile phone. “The municipality does not request to be called back by applicants, particularly on a mobile phone.”;
• The potential victim is required to pay a fee in advance. Selala says the municipality does not request applicants to pay any money to any individual in exchange for job placement.
• The applicant is invited to an interview for a job that they did not apply for.

The Municipality is urging the public and all applicants to be vigilant and to not accept any job interview invitation they did not apply for or job offer that they have never conducted an interview for.

“The public is further urged to alert law enforcement agencies about any suspicious activities related to Polokwane Municipal vacancies,” Selala’s statement read.
