Two people die in fiery three-vehicle collision on R81

The three vehicles, two Izuzu's and a Ford Ranger, collided and caught fire on Friday night on the R81 road between Giyani and Mooketsi.

LIMPOPO – According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, two of the vehicles involved were travelling in the same direction, from Giyani to Mooketsi, when they collided. It is alleged one of these vehicles then collided head-on with a third vehicle, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

He explained that after the collision, all the three motor vehicles caught fire. Two occupants (a male driver and a female passenger) from one Izuzu bakkie were burnt to death. Two occupants (a driver and a passenger) from the second Izuzu bakkie, survived without injuries and the three occupants including the driver of the Ford Ranger, sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

The process of identifying the two deceased through forensic tests is still underway, Ngoepe added.

At this stage, the cause of this collision is not clear and a case of culpable homicide in under investigation.
