The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) has given SDM Executive Mayor Stan Ramaila five days from last Wednesday to act on recommendations contained in a forensic report pertaining to alleged fraud involving R5,4 million during July last year. The recommendations entailed steps to be taken against officials involved in the matter.
DA councillor in the municipality, Isaac Makofane said in a media release that the money was allegedly paid into accounts not destined for. He added that although some officials were suspended, the cases are still pending.
The DA also insisted that the outcomes of the report be forwarded to the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Basikopo Makamu and MEC for Provincial Treasury, Seoparo Sekoati.
Spokesperson for the municipality, Willy Mosoma said Ramaila has acknowledged receipt of the letter by the DA and that the matter has been raised in many council meetings.
“The Executive Mayor has since requested to be afforded the opportunity to deal with the matter logically and stated that it is being dealt internally through labour processes and that the Hawks are also handling the case,” Masoma said.
Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson Matimba Maluleke confirmed on Tuesday that the case of fraud is still under investigation.
