Justice Mathume Tshehla (51) who was recently found guilty on the murder of Betty Phaswane Mosehla (81) at her home outside Jane Furse in 2017, was sentenced to 48 years behind bars by the Limpopo High Court last Tuesday.
Maphure Manamela of the Provincial Police Communications Centre indicated that Tshehla was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 15 years for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm and 8 years for house breaking with intent to rob.
She said that the sentencing follows an incident on 9 September 2017 when Tshehla broke into the elderly woman’s house while she was sleeping and hacked her to death with an axe before stealing her television set and clothes.
Police were called to the scene when Moseshla’s body was discovered in a pool of blood after information was received about the attack.
She sustained a number of injuries and was certified dead on the scene.
All leads were thoroughly investigated until Tshehla was arrested within days after the incident.
Provincial Police Commissione Nneke Ledwaba commended the investigating officer Rakgomo Maila of Jane Furse Police Station for his hard work and dedication in collecting all the evidence that positively linked the accused, resulting in the sentencing.
