Members of Hope of Hopeless, a Polokwane based non-profit organisation intend embarking on an anti-drug and substance abuse campaign that will encompass a 55 km walk from Botlokwa within the Molemole municipal area to the provincial capital and is set to start on 12 July.
The organisation aims to raise funds for young men and women who are addicted to nyaope to rehabilitate themselves.
A member of the organisation, Clement Makolo said there are many nyaope addicts in the city who want to be rehabilitated but they cannot due to financial constraints. “We meet with them on a regular basis to talk to them and some are willing to quit and live a clean life. They need help and we want to help them with rehabilitation that is why we are going to raise funds for them,” Mokolo said.
He stressed that if they can rehabilitate 50% of the addicts they will also be helping to reduce the high rate of crime in the city. “Most addicts resort to crime to support their habit and I believe we can get them out of that life, save the nation and create a better Polokwane. We want to eradicate this scourge because there is an increasing number of male and female users who are also using the drug. We are calling all stakeholders and members of the community to come and join us to fight this dangerous drug that is destroying the youth,” Makolo concluded.
