Leeto la Polokwane, an integrated public transport system aimed at providing the city with public transport that is safer, faster, affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly, is in line with the national policy to transform the public transport sector through the provision of a high-quality transport system.

The facility will accommodate buses during off-peak periods. The construction of the facility started in July 2018 and it was initially projected that it would take six months to complete, according to the municipality. The project suffered delays at the time, with the contractors’ break from December 2018 to January 2019 being a factor.

At the time, Manthlako Sebaka, Transport Marketing, Communications and Stakeholder Relations Managerfor Leeto la Polokwane, said that despite the contractor being behind schedule, the municipality received a catch-up plan. The delays would also have financial implications for taxpayer, however, it now has a negative impact in the sense that the facility is not in use yet.

The projection of the completion date with the implementation of the catch-up plan was 30 June. According to Sebaka, the facility is currently at 90% complete.

“The fencing is complete, paving was done and the office will be completed within a month. It will come into use once the operation begins,” he said.
