POLOKWANE – Five suspects are expected to appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on charges of public violence following their arrest this morning, 2 July.
Their arrest follows violence on the R81 road between Giyani and Mooketsi near the Makgakgapatse village from Sunday, 30 June through to this morning. The community barricaded the road with stones, burning tyres and rubble.

The road was cleaned but the community mobilised once more this morning, resulting in the arrest of five suspects between the ages of 25 and 34-years-old.
Ngoepe added that Public Order Police are still present in the area to normalize the situation.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has urged communities to follow proper procedure rather than resorting to violence.
