Massive cold front over South Africa will have minimal effect on Polokwane

Temperatures in the city are expected to remain in the mid to low twenties for the rest of the week.

POLOKWANE – While the rest of the country is experiencing maximum temperatures in single and double digits in the teens, Polokwane will continue experiencing mild temperatures this week, according to the South African Weather Service’s forecast.

In recent weeks, a succession of cold fronts have affected mainly the southern extremities of the country, bringing much needed, albeit sporadic rainfall to the winter rainfall region. By contrast,
the weather over the interior of southern Africa has remained fairly settled, with mostly sunny, mild daytime weather, interspersed with chilly nights and early mornings, said the weather service in a statement released.

However, despite the landfall of two cold fronts in quick succession, Polokwane’s maximum temperatures are expected to remain in the mid to low twenties this week.

Tuesday will cool down to just 20 degrees with a low of five degrees and according to the weather service’s forecast, Sunday will warm to a maximum of 27 degrees. No rain has been forecast and sunny conditions are expected throughout the week.

However, according to people’s weather’s forecast, temperatures will remain in the low twenties and teens for the week, peaking at 23 degrees on Monday and Sunday and cooling down to 19 degrees on Tuesday.

The weather service added that whilst the weather-related impact of winter weather systems often focuses strongly on rain and cold, there is also likely to be a significant weather-related hazard in terms of the risk of runaway fires and this will include the Lowveld areas of Limpopo only.
