The police opened two cases of murder following the discovery of the two bodies in a house in Namakgale, outside Phalaborwa on Sunday, 30 June.
The bodies of the deceased were found in a pool of blood inside the house. The bodies had gunshot wounds and a firearm with four live rounds was found next to the bodies, said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe in a media statement on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as husband and wife, Ephraim Mashile (61) and Beauty Mashile (38).
The motive behind this incident is not clear, but domestic violence has not be ruled out, Ngoepe added
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the persisting incidents of domestic related killings in the province. “Consult with relevant local professionals and authorities in case of domestic related situation for intervention, rather than harming or killing one another,” he concluded.
