Four municipal employees arrested for suspected cable theft in Polokwane
Four employees attached to the electrical department of the Polokwane Municipality, were arrested on Friday afternoon in connection with suspected cable theft.
POLOKWANE – In a statement released by the municipal spokesperson, Thipa Selala confirmed the arrests and said internal investigation will be conducted and should there are any findings against the said employees, disciplinary process will proceed.
“The municipality views this matter seriously as cable theft is a serious criminal offence and prevalent in the municipality,” he said.
The municipality loses millions of Rands annually as a result of cable theft, adversely affecting services to the community and urges residents to be vigilant over their service infrastructure and report any suspicious activity to the police.
“A case has been opened and the matter is now in the hands of the police,” he concluded.
