BREAKING NEWS – No clean audit reports for Limpopo municipalities for 2017/18

None of Limpopo’s municipalities managed to obtain a clean audit for the 2017/18 financial year that ended on 30 June 2018. Eight municipalities however received financially unqualified audit opinions with findings.
According to the report of the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) that was released yesterday (Wednesday), Capricorn and Sekhukhune district municipalities and Elias Motsoaledi, Ephraim Mogale, Greater Letaba, Maruleng, Molemole and Thulamela municipalities received financially unqualified audit opinions with findings, while Waterberg District Municipality and Ba-Phalaborwa, Bela-Bela, Blouberg, Fetakgomo Tubatse, Greater Giyani, Greater Tzaneen, Lepelle-Nkumpi, Lephalale, Makhado, Makhuduthamaga, Musina and Polokwane received financially qualified audit opinions with findings.
Mopani District Municipality and Mogalakwena Municipality received adverse opinions with findings while Vhembe District Municipalty and Collins Chabane Municipality received disclaimers with findings. The audit of Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality was not finalised.
Auditor General Kimi Makwetu said in the report that out of the 257 municipalities and municipal entities nationally only 18 municipalities managed to produce quality financial statements and performance reports, as well as compliance with all key legislation, thereby receiving a clean audit. This is a regression from the 33 municipalities that received clean audits in the previous year, according to the report. Of the audited municipalities, the audit outcomes of 63 regressed while those of 22 improved.
