Grade 12 learners of Maseala Progressive Secondary School are using the winter recess to attend enrichment classes that commenced on Monday and is set to end on 6 July in Bethlehem, Free State.
Before their return they will also attend their matric farewell. A total of 50 learners are set to attend morning and evening lessons, be addressed by motivational speakers and also embark on educational outings. They will visit places such as the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, Maluti mountains, Basotho cultural village and Golden Gate Highland National Park among others. The subjects to be tackled during the winter camp include Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Accounting, Economics and Information Technology.
Maseala Progressive School director Masilo Mohlahlana indicated that the group’s mid-year results are at 90% compared to last year’s 88%. He further stated that such trips are bearing fruit and that they hoped learners would use the opportunity to improve their results. He said thus far educators had covered 75% of the curriculum and the camp would also assist them to work on new chapters.
“The winter enrichment lessons will be linked with our matric dance at the Golden Gate Hotel. But prior to the day of glitz and glamour, we are going to have a bonfire for learners to pledge their commitment ahead of the national senior certificate examinations. We wish our learners well and we are confident that we will produce a 100% pass rate at the end of the year. We also want to thank our committed parents for their continued support,” Mohlahlana explained.
Maseala Progressive Secondary School head boy Khadeli Mokoena and head girl Kanti Mokgohloa were positive that the lessons would help learners change their paths from a rocky to a solid one. They highlighted that they didn’t do well in the first two terms and reiterated that their educators have been doing their best to help them improve. Kanti said the trip was necessary because it would assist in transforming them into better students and unleash their true potential. She urged her fellow learners to use the opportunity to the best of their ability to reap the fruits of hard work at the end of the year.
Khadeli on the other hand indicated that the trip would help learners to reflect on both their weak and strong points, adding that this was a great platform for the matrics to work on their subjects ahead of the exams. The duo thanked their parents and school directors for the opportunity and pledged that they will make good use of it.
