Seven security officers who face charges of murder and attempted murder were expected to appear in the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday following an incident on the weekend during which a man was shot dead and his friend injured.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that security officers had allegedly received a report that one of their own was shot and killed by a suspect in the area.
Without informing the Police they allegedly departed to a house at Mohodi Manthata village outside Mogwadi in search of the so-called suspect.
It is reported that the guards located the suspect while he was in the company of a friend. They allegedly interrogated the suspect during which process he was shot in the chest and died instantly, according to Ngoepe. His friend was also shot but survived the ordeal.
The Police were summoned and intense investigations swiftly led to the arrest of the guards. Four pistols and three rifles were confiscated during the arrest.
The deceased was identified as Masilu Mothemela (24).
Acting Provincial Commissioner Jan Scheepers has condemned the incident in the strongest terms.
