[WATCH] Polokwane Mayor addresses ongoing water issues – “We’re playing catch-up”

This morning, 18 June, the Executive Mayor of Polokwane, Thembi Nkadimeng, addressed ongoing water issues on the Ashifashabba Breakfast Show on Energy FM, with the Mayor admitting the municipality is playing catch up and failed at maintaining the city's infrastructure.

POLOKWANE – With planned maintenance taking place on the corner of Grobler Street and Munnik Avenue, as well as scheduled electricity disruptions in the Greater Tzaneen affecting water supply to the city and surrounding areas, residents have vented their frustration across all media platforms.

On Saturday, 15 June, the Municipality released a statement saying water to all areas of supply will be restored that afternoon. However, by Sunday and Monday, residents were still without water, causing even more frustration.

This morning, 18 June, the Executive Mayor of Polokwane, Thembi Nkadimeng, addressed ongoing water issues on the Ashifashabba Breakfast Show on Energy FM, with the Mayor admitting the municipality is playing catch up and failed at maintaining the city’s infrastructure.

“We missed the maintenance train as a Municipality. Playing catch up, unfortunately, forces us to do everything at once and it’s costing a lot of money,” she said.

However, the Mayor noted that there is water flowing into the pipe on the corner of Grobler Street and Munnik Avenue.

Another issue that arose was the late hours that the water tankers arrive in the city. The Mayor says the tankers only arrive in hte city after fulfilling their primary schedules which to areas outside the city that only receive water three times a week when the tankers arrive.
