Man shoots and kills partner in full view of her colleagues before turning the gun on himself

The murder-suicide took place on Monday, 17 June, inside a supermarket at a shopping complex in the Burgersfort CBD.

LIMPOPO – The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has condemned a murder-suicide that occurred in the Burgersfort CBD on Monday, 17 June.

This, after a 33-year-old man, killed his partner (30) inside a supermarket at a shopping complex in the Burgersfort CBD, before turning the gun on himself.

Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe reports that the man arrived at the store and without saying anything, shot his partner in full view of other employees and customers and later, he was found lying dead in the shop, in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound and the firearm lying next to his body.

“The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage, but, domestic violence cannot be ruled out. Police have opened a case of murder and an inquest docket for further investigations,” he said.

The deceased were identified as Paulos Mokwana (33) and Valencia Mnisi (30), both from Manoke Village, outside Burgersfort.

“Communities are advised and encouraged to seek professional assistance from local authorities for intervention, rather than resorting to violence,” concluded General Scheepers.
