MEC sends condolences to families of two killed in fatal 3-vehicle collision on R71

Spokesperson for the MEC of Transport, Joel Seabi on behalf of MEC Dickson Masemola also wished a speedy recovery to the Lephalale students who were injured in the collision

LIMPOPO – The collision between a bus transporting students from Lepahale FET to Phalaborwa, a Toyota Fortuner and a GMW ldv, happened along the R71 road in the Rubbervale, Gravelotte area at around 05:30 on Saturday morning.

According to a statement issued by Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, it is alleged the bus lost control and collided head-on with a GWM ldv. A Toyota Fortuner rear-ended the bus.

“The 22-year-old driver and one passenger from the light delivery vehicle (ldv) died on the scene. Another passenger from the same vehicle sustained serious injuries, while 78 passengers from the bus sustained slight injuries,: he said

All patients were transported to the Maphuta Malatji and Letaba hospitals for medical treatment, Moremi-Taueatsoala concluded.

Spokesperson Joel Seabi  on behalf of MEC of Community and Safety, Dickson Masemola sent condolences to the  families of the two who died and also wished a speedy recovery to the Lephalale students who were injured in the collision.

“We are expecting a high volume of traffic in Limpopo due to the long weekend and the Youth Day celebrations in Polokwane and call on motorists to be vigilant on the roads and exercise patience,” Seabi concluded.
