Man (23) to spend fifteen years in prison for raping a 17-year-old girl

In 2017, the rapist attacked the victim's boyfriend before dragging her to his house and raping her.

LIMPOPO – The Lenyenye Regional Court, this week, sentenced a 23- year-old man to an effective 15 years imprisonment without an option of a fine, for raping a 17-year-old girl during an incident in Hoedspruit, outside Phalaborwa, in 2017.

In a statement released, police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe expalins that on 19 February 2017, a 17 year old girl was walking with her boyfriend when the accused attacked the victim’s boyfriend and assaulted him. The boyfriend ran away, leaving the victim behind.

“The accused then dragged the victim to his house and raped her before releasing her. The shaken girl walked home and reported the matter to her parents who immediately informed the police. A case of rape was opened and assigned to the detectives in the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit (FCS),’ he added.

Ngoepe concluded by saying that the accused was traced through the outstanding investigative skills of Detective Sergeant Luphondo Mkansi and arrested a day later, on 20 February 2017. “He apperared before the local court several times until his ultimate sentencing.”
