Man (41) shot and killed in Letsitele outside Tzaneen, police launch manhunt

It is alleged the deceased was in the area to pay his "illegal mining employees".

LIMPOPO – A 41-year-old man was shot and killed during an incident which occurred at a house in Letsitele outside Tzaneen on Wednesday night.

In a statement released, Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said it is alleged the deceased had come from Carnival City in Gauteng to Zanghoma village in Letsitele, to pay his “illegal mining employees”.

“The man was inside the house talking to some of the employees, when an unknown assailant entered the yard, shot him and fled on foot with his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money. He was certified dead on the scene.”

The deceased was identified as Frank Joe Moyo, from a Zimbabwe.

Ngoepe added that the precise motive for this murder will be revealed through the ongoing police investigations.

“The police have launched a manhunt for the suspect involved in this matter and are making an appeal to anyone with information, that can lead to his arrest, to contact Colonel Cecil Machimane at 082 451 7181. Alternatively they can also contact the 24-hour crime stop number at 0860010111 or the nearest police station.”

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has since condemned the cold blooded murder of a man suspected to be linked to illegal mining and said
the killing of any person, for whatever reason, will not be tolerated by the South African Police Service. “Decisive action will be taken to make sure the killer is hunted down and brought to book,”concluded General Ledwaba.
