Mamas get the know-how on the latest sewing trends

Clover Mama Afrika has since 2004, identified powerful women and helped them with skills training.

POLOKWANE – “Everyone knows her. A woman of incredible grace, whose heart is open to care, nurture, educate, and provide a haven to those who need it. Her name is Clover Mama Afrika,” reads Clover Mama Afrika’s website.

Clover has since 2004, identified powerful women and helped them with skills training. These skills are in turn conveyed to the community. One of these projects, the Clover Mama Afrika sewers, were back for yet another valuable training session at Bernina.

During the first year, it is imperative that the sewers attend all the training sessions set out for the year.

“Each training session focuses on certain sewing aspects and techniques, which improves their skill. It is only during the second year of sewing, that our trainees can feel confident in providing different quality sewn items,” says Prof Elain Vlok, Clover’s Corporate Services Manager.

Constance Botlholo of Winterveld has her Clover Mama Afrika’s dress evaluated by Prof Elain Vlok and Linda Venter.

The week started with evaluating each trainee’s homework. “Our sewers had to create a dress for their respective Clover Mamas and bring it for evaluation. I can quickly see if they practiced sewing and referred to their sewing files to do their homework,” explains Linda Venter of Bernina.

Constance Botlholo of Winterveld had her dress evaluated by both Prof Elain and Linda.

“I was nervous about the result of the evaluation, as if I was in class again. You are taught very well, but when you are alone you really need to hear the teacher’s voice all the time,” says Constance.

This was a great training session for all the Mamas who attended, with each one leaving feeling that they have learnt a lot and could add to their skills.
