Foreign national arrested near Lephalale in posession of counterfeit cigarettes

The arrest formed part of a clean-up operation led by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba

LIMPOPO – A 41-year-old Somalian national is expected to appear before the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court, soon, after his arrest during a roadblock in Shongoane No.2, on the outskirts of Lephalale.

The man was arrested for possession of counterfeit cigarettes after police stopped and searched a suspicious vehicle.

Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the following counterfeit cigarettes were seized:

– Three boxes containing 50 cartoons × 200 counterfeit cigarettes.
– Eight boxes containing 50 cartoons × 200 counterfeit cigarettes.
– The motor vehicle used, a white Nissan Tida, was inspected and its chassis number was found to be tampered with and it was also seized.

In addition, Ngoepe says a 29-year-old man was arrested in the Zebediela Policing area, outside Mokopane, for dealing in dagga.

“The suspect was arrested on the spot while selling dagga at the Moletlane Disco. During the arrest, dagga and cash were seized and the suspect is expected to appear before the Zebediela Magistrate’s Court, soon,” Ngoepe’s statement concluded.
