Two additional teenagers appear in court for the murder of Thorisho Themane, case postponed

Nine teenagers, as well as two adults also accused of murdering Thorisho Themane, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court this morning, 31 May 2019.

POLOKWANE – The total number of teenagers accused of murdering Thorisho Themane now stands at nine. This, after the Thorisho Themane Foundation stated two more teenagers (aged 16 and 17-years-old) appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning, 31 May.

The teenagers, along with two adults, are accused of allegedly murdering Themane in Flora Park on 23 February 2019. His body was found by a passerby.

In April, seven of the teenagers were released on R2 000 bail and conditions included relocating from the municipal area of Polokwane until finalisation of the matter, as well as not being arrested for any other offenses that contain violence as an element. Another condition was that they not attend any of the schools they attended at the beginning of the year in the city.

According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the adults’ case has been postponed to 6 August 2019 and the teenagers will next appear on 14 August 2019. “The case has been postponed to 14 August 2019 pending  a psychologist assessment report of accused six and seven.”

He concluded by saying that the R2000 bail that was granted to each of the accused, has been extended.
