The South African Police Service is for anyone and everyone

The South African Police Service recently hosted an informative interactive career session, whereby learners from the city and surrounding areas were educated on the various divisions with the service as well as the recruitment processes

POLOKWANE – The event was held on Thursday 23, May with the purpose of engaging with the learners and encouraging them to grab hold of the various recruitment opportunities offered by the South African Police Service. “I want to encourage you, as the youth to grab opportunities available to you in order to ensure that you become better people and leaders of tomorrow,” Station Commander and Brigadier, Gift Mkahubele said.

To further discuss the requirements needed for one to qualify for a vacant post and the different units available in the policing industry, was Colonel Ntobeng Phala the recruitment drive officer at SAPS Polokwane.

Phala broke down the requirements needed for one to be able to obtain a vacant post in the policing industry and those include:

• Gr 12 or matric certificate or at-least a level 4 completion from a FET college

• Valid RSA ID

• Between ages 18-35 years of age

• Fit and healthy (physically oriented persons)

• Well mannered and groomed with no visible tattoos

• No criminal record

• Be able to speak and communicate in English

• Have great communication skills

• Must be eager to learn

• Have a valid RSA drivers licence however Phala says provisions and practice fair discrimination to allow for growth especially in youth who come from poverty stricken background and thus cannot afford to pay to do a drivers licence at the moment, on the basis that they will get it done as soon as they are able to.

Phalala further reminded the learners that there is a unit within the Police service that will cater to anyone and everyone. “Many people assume that working in the policing industry means chasing down criminals and arresting them. This is not the case the industry is compromised of a variety of units which are versatile,” he said.

Some of the various units which Phala mentioned included:

• Professions in forensic unit which include jobs such as Crime Scene Examiner, Biologists, Drug Analyst, Facial Constructionist, Forensic Photographer, Fire and Arson Investigator and many more.

• Social Unit which include Human Resource, Call Centre Official, Biokineticist, Crime Prevention Official, Air Hostess and various others

• Artistic Unit which comprise of jobs such as Architect, Cameraman, Chef, Journalist, Musician, Quantity Surveyor, Video Technician, Translators and many others.
