Progress made on project to alleviate water issues in Flora Park and surrounding areas

The contractor, Diges Group Building Contractors started the project on 6 May and it is expected to be completed by the end of June.

POLOKWANE – The municipality is midway through the construction and erection of a buffer tank, a pump station and a pipeline from a borehole and connection to the existing water main at De Wet street. Once completed, the connections will ease the current water supply problems experienced especially in Flora and Fauna Park, and Serala View.

The contractor, Diges Group Building Contractors started the project on 6 May and it is expected to be completed by the end of June. The new development comes as a result of water challenges that Polokwane has been facing, particularly in the high-lying areas.

The Mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng held a meeting with residents of Serala View and Flora Park on 27 March where she outlined the plans to alleviate the water challenges. She said that R5 million had been allocated by the Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, to alleviate the area’s water problems.

Flora Park resident, Mmina Siwela said that seeing the project coming to completion has given her hope.

“I have seen workers work over the weekend, which is brilliant because it shows that they are serious about solving our problems. The cherry on top is that the youth in the area got jobs for the duration of the project,”she said.

Another resident who was happy with the progress of the construction site is Makoma Mathonsi who said that she is excited by the prospect of having a steady supply of water.

“I hope this will really mean the end of our water woes. We have been struggling for months now. It will be a relief to be able to have constant running water,” she said.

Thipa Selala, Municipal Spokesperson said the water project will bring relief for residents in these areas.
