While the scourge of pollution and its possible effect on global warming and environmental health has been extensively debated worldwide in recent times the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (Ledet) is about to host environmental awareness campaigns at different venues across the province from 5 to 27 June.
The activities would form part of the World Environment Day celebrations guided by the theme ‘Air pollution’.
Information made available by Ledet indicate that reports by the World Health Organisation state that air pollution kills approximately 7 million people worldwide yearly, and nine out of ten people breathe in high levels of pollutants daily. The gatherings are scheduled for 5 June at Thabazimbi Stadium, 13 June in Moetagare village Ga-Matlala, 20 June Muhlaba Cross village and Dichoeung Community Hall in Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality while the last session is set for 27 June in Muduluni Community Hall in Thabazimbi Municipality.
