15-year-old Mankweng boy arrested for stabbing and killing fellow learner (16)

Following a manhunt, the learner was found in a hideout and arrested and the murder weapon was found on a small hill outside the village

POLOKWANE – A 15-year-old boy from Mankweng has been arrested for killing a fellow 16-year-old learner at Robert Machaka Secondary School in Ga-Mamabolo, earlier today.

In a statement released by police, spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the two learners allegedly fought while playing within the school premises and the suspect produced a sharp instrument and stabbed the deceased, before fleeing from the scene.

“The deceased was taken to hospital for medical treatment, but was certified dead on arrival. A manhunt ensued and the suspect was found at a hideout in the area and was arrested. Preliminary investigations led police to a spot on top of a small hill, outside the village, where the murder weapon was found,” Ngoepe said.

The deceased was identified as David Metlape (16) who was in Grade 8

The suspect, a Grade 9 learner, will appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court, soon, on a charge of murder.

Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has condemned the incident and says police investigations into the matter will continue.
