[WATCH] Motorists blatantly ignore newly erected Soetdorings stop sign on the N1

The stop sign was erected earlier in this week, however, motorists who are not aware have been blatantly ignoring the stop sign and driving through it without stopping.

POLOKWANE – Motorists travelling on the N1 Northbound were surprised to find a newly erected three way stop sign at the Soetdorings T-Junction.

The stop sign was erected on Tuesday this week, however, motorists who are not aware have been blatantly ignoring the stop sign and driving through it without stopping.

In two videos sent to Review, one can see vehicles passing through the stop sign at a speed, disobeying the rules of the road. (The first video was taken on Tuesday and the second video was taken on Thursday.)

On Tuesday, the Doornbult CPF posted a warning, notifying motorists of the three way stop. “Be extremely careful with this crossing, make sure that the N1 traffic stops at the new stop before you cross the intersection. As it is new, it will take a while before the N1 traffic is accustomed to the new stop,” the notice read.

According to the spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, the N1 is under the management of Sanral and they would “normally erect such on request by the municipality concerned,” he said.

Review is currently awaiting comment from municipal spokesperson, Thipa Selala on the matter.
