POLOKWANE – The Tumelo Care Centre, a project which was started two years ago in Blood River, will bring relief to a burdened community.

Sent 2 Serve Ministries is Non Profit Organisation (NPO) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) and it supports a number of initiatives in and around Polokwane and one such, is the Tumelo Care Centre, that aims to educate and feed young children.

Melville Botha, the founder of Sent2Serve Ministries explained that working with drop-in centers over the years, has made him realise that there was a serious and dire need for such organizations to assist in communities.

Tumelo, which means faith in Sepedi, will be a feeding scheme and aftercare center for young and vulnerable children between the ages of 6 to 13-years-old.

“Bloodriver is inhibited by some of the poorest of the poor in Polokwane. Child-headed families due to HIV are not uncommon and due to the high unemployment rate in this area, many children are underfed and neglected which results in poor health and underperformance at school. We all know that a hungry child cannot concentrate,” said Botha.

The center aims to provide a safe haven for children where they will have at least one decent meal per day, a place where they will be assisted with their education and provide a safe space for the children to discover their potential and individuality as they interact with their peers.

The construction of the building is complete, but it still in need of finishing touches. Botha appeals to people who can assist in the completion of the care center. You can find out more about Sent2Serve Ministries on their website.
