International Nurses Day was observed worldwide last Friday and locally Mediclinic Limpopo used the occasion to recognise one of their staff members with a Nursing Excellence Award. Pre-admission clinical facilitator, Joice Ngwenya was nominated for the award by her peers. The accolade recognises the dedication invested into caring for her patients and supporting her colleagues.
After receiving the award, Ngwenya stated that she had been a nurse since 2003 and was not expecting to be honoured in that way. She further said she was grateful and appreciated the recognition from the hospital.
“I think nursing chose me. I never dreamt that I would one day become a nurse. The award will definitely motivate me to go an extra mile in caring for patients and supporting my colleagues. I would like to thank the hospital management and my fellow nurses for the honour. It really means a lot to me,” Ngwenya remarked.
Mediclinic Limpopo General Manager MC Botha emphasised that they do a lot of things at the facility and that nursing was one of them. He thanked the nursing staff for working as a team and treating patients with love. Botha stressed that the team was amazing and urged them to keep up the good work.
Deputy Nursing Manager Alfonsina Sekgoka explained that they annually celebrate the day to honour the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.
