With printed hard copies seemingly reaching a dead-end as technology takes over, the Provincial Government has reportedly digitalised over 50 000 paper curricula vitae (CVs) onto cloud database to try address issues of unemployment in Limpopo.
The method is anticipated to connect job seekers with employers as it is alleged that printed CVs are often dumped in boxes in various workplaces and thousands of them fail to reach the hands of the potential employers.
In this instance, Limpopo government reportedly partnered with an organisation called Lulaway about two months ago to digitalise CVs as the province prepares for over R140 million investment from China into the planned Musina-Makhado special economic zone (SEZ).
Information made available by the organisation in a statement indicated that in preparation for the thousands of employees required to work in the SEZ, the province called on residents to submit their CVs. It was further reported that the organisation created a digitised cloud-based database of job seekers in the province and would start drawing on these profiles to place candidates while building a diverse talent pool for the SEZ.
Lulaway chairperson Andile Mkhosana was quoted to have said the project demonstrates what is possible by using technology to promote employment: “We have employers nationwide who struggle to source candidates, particularly outside the major metros. This database will stimulate growth and expansion in the region. We can now offer placement services to our current employers, as well as source new employers. Youth will benefit as well as the private sector.”
Limpopo Premier-elect Stan Mathabatha’s spokesperson, Kenny Mathivha said the provincial government made a call to residents to submit CVs to be added on the database of job seekers.
He further said upon receipt, Limpopo government appointed Lulaway to digitalise paper CVs and thus far over 50 000 digitalised CVs are on the system.
“After the Premier has taken oath of office, we will have the official launch of the project in June. The gathering will also be used to communicate the latest information on the planned Musina-Makhado SEZ,” Mathivha explained and added that the digitalised CVs would simplify the process of linking job seekers with potential employers in both the public and private sector.
