The trial in which Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Provincial Secretary Jossey Buthane is facing charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and robbery with aggravating circumstances, is set to start in October.
Buthane appeared in the Polokwane District Court in connection with the matter on Tuesday after which the case was postponed for trial to 14 to 16 October.
The charges against Buthane stem from a clash between the EFF and the Radical Economic Transformation Forum (RETF) in the city in May last year which allegedly led to the injury of a public representative.
Disruption of a RETF meeting allegedly led to persons identified as EFF supporters clad in red T-shirts assaulting members of the RETF. Video clips showing RETF members being kicked and beaten by attackers armed with clubs and pick axe handles did the rounds on social media.
Buthane is allegedly visible in more than one of the videos relating to the incident.
