Woman arrested after being found with crystal meth at the Beitbridge Port of Entry

In addition to her arrest, a man was also arrested in Roedtan in possession of illicit cigarettes

LIMPOPO – Police in the province have made a breakthrough in the mushrooming of drugs and counterfeit goods following the arrest of two suspects over the past weekend.

In a statement released, police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe explained that the arrests involved the seizure of drugs worth approximately R2 million and the recovery of counterfeit goods worth thousands of rands during separate incidents.

In the first incident, a 38-year-old woman was arrested at the Beitbridge Port of Entry in the Musina policing area after police found 15 sachets of crystal meth with an estimated street value of over R2 million.

“Preliminary police investigations revealed that the woman was travelling from Harare to South Africa,” Ngoepe said. 

Meanwhile, in the Roadtan policing area, outside Modimolle, police arrested a 39-year-old man for possession of counterfeit cigarettes while patrolling along the N11 and R33 crossroads, near the Rathoke weight bridge.

“Police pulled-off a Toyota Rav-4, searched it and found the cigarettes with an estimated street value of R80 000 as well as cellphones and knives. The origin of the cigarettes will be determined by ongoing police investigations,” he explained.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, applauded police on a job well done for apprehending the two suspects.

“The suspects will soon appear before the Musina and Roadtan Magistrate’s Courts. Police investigations continue,” Ngoepe concluded.
