Police in Mookgophong have registered an inquest following the death of a couple after a light aircraft crashed into a hill outside town Friday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Johannes Kemp (77) and his wife, Angelina (66) of Volksrust in Mpumalanga who were underway to a game lodge in the area to visit their son when the accident happened.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that the accident happened at about 13:00. The Police’s Search and Rescue Unit as well as emergency services visited the scene but the couple was declared dead on the scene, according to Ngoepe.
Meanwhile, Kabelo Ledwaba of the South African Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the accident has been launched but he could not provide any further details.
