Seven trial-awaiting prisoners escape from Modimolle holding cells, manhunt launched

The prisoners were apprehended for various offences such as contravention of the explosives Act, rape and armed robbery

LIMPOPO – In a statement released, Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, says the seven awaiting trial prisoners escaped from the Police holding cells on Saturday night.

“It is alleged that these prisoners escaped at around 20:00, during the routine service by the Police,” he explained.

Ngoepe says the escapees as been identified as follows:

Polano Ndebele (27), from Zimbabwe, who was arrested for the explosives Act
Thapelo Mello (24), from Mookgopong, who was arrested for the explosives Act.
Themba Ncube (36), from Zimbabwe, who was arrested for the explosives Act.
Sello Rengane (35), from Bela-Bela, who was arrested for rape.
Kenneth Shuma (30), from Zimbabwe, who was arrested for armed robbery.
Kazen Dluwayo (33), from Zimbabwe, who was arrested for house robbery.
Mpho Obvious Lesese (32) from Zimbabwe, who was arrested for armed robbery

“The circumstances around this incident is a subject of ongoing Police investigations.”
