Help Kamogelo fulfill her dream to compete in Spain

Kamogelo Makgato from Bendor, currently Miss Teen United World SA 2019, is scheduled to compete in Spain this year. However, to compete on 2 to 8 October, she needs R98 000 to fulfil her dream.

POLOKWANE – Kamogelo is a Gr 10 learner at Polokwane Preparatory School (PEPPS). The 14-year-old appeals to Polokwane residents to sponsor her trip, in order for her to fulfil her dream.

She will represent South Africa in Spain and compete with different girls from all over the world. She feels it’s going to be a good learning curve. “Being crowned Miss Teen United World 2019 means a lot to me. I can take the talent I have been blessed with and go further with it. Being a model is not always as easy as it may seem, it takes a lot of determination, hard work and a lot of practice. Pageantry could also be heart-breaking as you don’t always win. It may be painful sometimes, but you always need to work hard and do your best,” said Makgato.

She told BONUS she joined the modelling industry in 2016. “My first modelling agency groomed me and taught me all the basics about modelling. The modelling world can be rough, you must respect yourself. Education is important, so put school first. In everything you do, not everyone who will support you. It’s not about how many times you fall, what matters is how many times you stand up again.”

She adds with her, what you see is what you get. “I am a very shy girl, but I have been told that when I’m on stage, I’m a whole different person. I enjoy people’s company and really enjoy travelling. One of my passions is baking,” she said. She further said her role model is Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters who was crowned Miss South Africa 2017 and Miss Universe 2017. “She’s my role model, because she never gave up on her dreams. Even when she was told she’s too short to do modelling. It’s a reminder to me that I should never give up. My parents inspire me too, because they are so hard-working. My mom does my dresses, as she’s one of the best fashion designers I know,” she said.

She confesses there are a few challenges she has come across in the modelling industry. “I used to doubt myself and let what other people say about me, get to me. I have learnt to focus on myself and never listen to the negative things people say about me. There’s a quote that says ‘Be who you want to be and not what the world wants to see’, which speaks about not letting what people say about me, affect me,” she explains.

Makgato has other titles such as Queen of the North 2017, Miss Tzaneen Lifestyle, Miss Hope Teen 2018 and Miss Hope Overall Queen 2018.
