Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) boasts an Africa’s Travel Indaba Gold Award for the most attractive stand at the recent Africa’s Travel Indaba held at the Nkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.
The award was made by South African Tourism in the category for provincial authorities.
LTA spokesperson, Mike Tauatsoala clarified that the agency’s substantial stand housed 58 tourism products from across the province under a culture and heritage theme. “It was the first time that we put all the tourism products together as a single exhibit. Normally municipalities are separated from other tourism product owners.” he explained and added that they were elated to have won the award and would certainly strive to defend it successfully next year.
Asked about the cost of the stand, Tauatsoala could not divulge the exact figure. “We may not be able to break it down but the total cost of Africa’s Travel Indaba was R2,5 million, which was a collective effort from all the municipalities as well as individual products or exhibitors at the show. This is the reason we attribute this achievement to team Limpopo as we did not go solo on this one.”
Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Nomasonto Ndlovu was quoted to have said: “Winning the gold award for the best stand in the category is humbling,” and added that they were at the same time grateful for the improvement from last year’s silver medal.
“Our gratitude goes to team LTA once again that worked tirelessly for all these achievements.”
Ndlovu also reportedly said they trust that the participating tourism products reaped benefits as they have closed business deals which will in turn benefit tourism by growing the economy in the province.
“The objectives for attending the show were, among others, to position Limpopo as a leading destination in Southern Africa as well as a unique heritage and culture destination in Southern Africa.”
