Police ‘hard on the heels’ of suspects who shot and robbed a couple at teachers quarters in Limpopo

The incident happened in the early hours of this morning at Ga-Mabitsela Village in the Matlala area

LIMPOPO – In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, confirmed that the Matlala Police are hard on the heels of a group of unknown suspects who attacked and robbed three people at the teacher’s quarters at Ga-Mabitsela Village on Tuesday morning.

It is alleged the group of unknown suspects, armed with forearms and an assortment of objects, went from one residence to the other, attacking and robbing the victims of their belongings.

Ngoepe explained: “The first victim, a 28-year-old man, was allegedly asleep in his house when he was awoken by a noise and then accosted by three armed suspects. The one suspect which was armed with a panga, ordered him to be silent while they robbed him of two cellphones, a laptop and a wallet.”

“The perpetrators thereafter proceeded to another house where a couple aged 52 and 57 were sleeping. They tried to break the door but the victims blocked the door in an attempt to prevent the suspects from gaining entrance and during the process, the couple was shot and wounded. Two cellphones were also taken from the injured victims, before the suspects fled in a vehicle which was parked nearby.”

The two victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention, he added.

The description and registration numbers of this getaway vehicle is still unknown at this stage. The police urge anyone with information that can assist in the arrest of the suspects involved in this matter, to contact Detective Warrant Officer Mothokwe on 083 4936 949.

Alternatively they can contact the 24-hour crime stop number 0860010111, the Crime Line Sms 32211 or the nearest Police Station station.

Police investigations are still continuing, Ngoepe concluded.
