Journalism requires plenty of focus and discipline

Review journalist, Miranda Chauke talks us through her journey from being a Caxton Cadet to a Review Journalist

My journey started when I was selected to be part of the cadet programme in February 2017, then I became a freelance journalist before I became a permanent journalist in March last year. It’s been a little over a year since I became a permanent journalist and I have so much more respect for the journalists who make it seem effortless. There is nothing effortless about the profession, it’s requires plenty of focus and discipline.

Like every profession, there are ups and downs but I am appreciative of every learning experience that comes with the job. I have a long way to go with so much to learn. One of the best feelings that come with journalist is the genuine gratitude from clients who are happy with their story when they finally get to read the newspaper not realizing that they you did not do them a favour, you are just as grateful for their time and allow you into their personal space.
