Polokwane to have five hour water supply interruptions daily for the next two to three weeks

The Polokwane Municipality says this is so the Department of Water and Sanitation can dredge to unblock valves within the Ebenezer Dam

POLOKWANE – The Municipality says they have received an update from Lepelle Northern Water that the process of unblocking valves within the Ebenezer dam will continue today, 25 April 2019.

This, after Lepelle Northern Water had to stop water supply from the Ebenezer Plant due to leaking valves in the dam over the past weekend.

In a statement released, municipal spokesperson, Thipa Selala explained that divers from Department of Water and Sanitation could not remove the cylinders due to thick layer of silt.

“Recommendations from the Department of Water and Sanitation have been made for dredging to be done in order for the cylinders to be removed safely. This, according to Lepelle Northern Water, means that there will be five hour water supply interruptions everyday for two to three weeks to areas of supply within Polokwane Municipality from today, 25 April 2019,” Selala said.

The statement added that all residents and businesses are urged to use water sparingly.
