A less than satisfactory turnout marked African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa’s pre-election roadshow on Economic Freedom Fighters Commander-in-Chief, Julius Malema’s home ground on Tuesday.
Ramaphosa was on a roadshow in the ANC’s Peter Mokaba region and made several stops in Seshego and surrounds.
Following a visit to local traditional leader, Kgabo Moloto, Ramaphosa then embarked on a door-to-door campaign with community members in the Moletjie area to garner support and popularise the party manifesto.
He later also met with various stakeholders, senior citizens and traditional leaders at Ngoako Ramahlodi Sport Complex.
In his short speech at a public park in Zone 1, Seshego Ramaphosa pleaded with the members of the community to give the ANC another chance to lead the country
“We need your support on 8 May. We don’t want small parties to take over our government. The ANC is the only government and it is going to govern with an increased majority. The ANC has done a lot for the country over the past 25 years. “We have built houses, schools and clinics for our people. We are feeding 900 million learners through the feeding scheme programme every year. We are going to provide tablets for primary school learners in the next five years,” Ramaphosa told the supporters.
He urged young people in the area to refrain from social ills and criminal elements and prioritise education. “We want an educated nation. Our economy needs skilled people. I urge all of you to go school and make use of our free, quality education.”
He also admitted that the ANC has made mistakes in the past and said they will continue to fix government at national, provincial and local government level. “We want to rectify our government and get rid of corruption. We promise to improve the education of our children. We are the only party that can take the country forward,” Ramaphosa stated.
At the Ngoako Ramahlodi Sport Complex Ramaphosa told senior citizens who complained about high municipal tariffs that the ANC would do its best to address the issue. “The municipalities are working very hard to ensure that everyone is happy with the tariffs. I will engage the officials to sort it it out,” Ramaphosa said.
