Motorists travelling between Gauteng and Polokwane are advised to use alternative routes as the N1 highway has been closed in both directions for forensic investigations following a head-on collision between a truck and a taxi in the vicinity of Modimolle earlier this morning (Thursday).
The truck allegedly caught fire after the accident.
The spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala indicated that the cause of the accident has not been established as yet and that details on the total number of deceased and injured persons are to follow soon.
He added that traffic officials are on duty and diverting traffic onto the R101 and R33. The N1 highway is expected to be closed for an approximate two hours.
