POLOKWANE – Hellen, popularly known as Kamo_thePvtChef, says she saw an opportunity to venture into the food industry when she realised how much her sauce was spoken about. People would out of curiosity ask her what sauce she uses when preparing her meat, not knowing that she made the sauce herself. “Some people asked me to make the sauce for them. I decided to make the sauce, bottle and sell it,” she explained.
Hellen says she would love to see her sauce being supplied to popular restaurants, locally and in the long run nationally and internationally. She hosts Traditional Sundays under her catering company called Moka Lifestyle at Tasty Mozoeralla in Mankweng next to the University of Limpopo. She says she aims to introduce fine dining to people in townships, as well as market her sauces. The various sauces include; sweet chilli, lemon and herb, hot and extra hot. “People tend to think fine dining or elegant dining is only for the wealthy. As a result people from rural areas cannot enjoy it, because either they can’t access it (geographical reasons) or they cannot afford it. So I am trying to break the misconception. A good meal has the power to build relationships and strengthen bonds,” she added.
Currently she supplies Turf Lodge and Phelachisa Nyama with her sauces and hopes to branch out to other outlets all over the country.
