Five people killed in horrific R71 collision near Haenertsburg
The accident happened near Silver Mist outside Haenertsburg at around 07:00 Friday morning
LIMPOPO – Five people have been confirmed dead following a collision on the R71 between a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota LDV on Friday morning.
In a statement released, Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, he confirmed that the fatal 2-vehicle collision happened near Silver Mist near Haenersburg at around 07:15 this morning.
“A Toyota Corolla travelling from Polokwane to Tzaneen collided head-on with a Toyota LDV which was travelling in the opposite direction. The driver of Toyota ldv was allegedly driving in the wrong lane, facing oncoming traffic,” he explained.
The driver of both vehicles as well as three female occupants (aged 30-40) in the Corolla died.
A case of reckless driving is being investigated, he concluded.

LIMPOPO – One lane is open for traffic after two vehicles collided on the R71 near Haenertsburg.
“Four people are still trapped after a bakkie and sedan collided on the R71,” says Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala.
One person has since been taken via private ambulance to Tzaneen Mediclinic Hospital, he adds.
According to a post on Traffic Policing Affairs Limpopo, one lane is open to traffic. “It is reported that four people died in the accident,” they say.
