Police launch manhunt for mother who abandoned her child in Polokwane restaurant

Police were alerted and found a baby boy, who is believed to be a few days old and took him to the hospital for medical assistance.

POLOKWANE – Police in Polokwane have launched a massive manhunt for the mother of a baby who was found abandoned in a food outlet in the city, earlier this afternoon, 6 April.

In a statement released, police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe explained that at around 13:00 this afternoon, a customer in the outlet went to the toilet and on return, she found a toddler placed on the floor wearing a jersey and wrapped in a blanket. She then alerted employees of the outlet who immediately summoned the police.

“Police were alerted and found a baby boy, who is believed to be a few days old and took him to the hospital for medical assistance. The motive behind this incident is still unknown at this point, but ongoing police investigations will tell,” he said.

A case of child neglect was opened but the mother is still unknown and no arrest has been made.
