Beauty and Patrick share the spirit of Ubuntu

With her baby in her arms, Virgilia Siems' trip to Dischem Platinum Park was a normal one, but cashier Beauty and security guard Patrick lent a helping hand to get Virgilia and her daughter safely to her car in the pouring rain

POLOKWANE – “I decided to go to the store with my baby but I left my pram at home because it’s so heavy and bulky,” Virgilia Siems told Review in what would have been just a normal trip to Dischem.

Instead, her trip left her smiling ear to ear after an act of kindness from Dischem Platinum Park cashier, Beauty Miya and Car Guard, Patrick.

“I decided to go to the store with my baby but I left my pram at home because it’s so heavy and bulky. After shopping around a bit, baby started getting a bit heavy in my arms and when I got to the till, Beauty took my baby from me and held her while I paid. She then walked with my baby to the door when we noticed it was pouring with rain. If I had gone to the car with my baby, we both would have been soaking. Patrick, the car guard came to the door where we were standing and asked me to give him my keys and to show him what car I drove so that he could drive my car to the front of the store. When he got to the entrance, he got out the car, took my baby and safely placed her in her car seat,” Virgilia explained to Review.

She went on to tell Review that it is amazing that people would go the extra mile, just to help another. “When shopping, people will see you struggling but we take it as it is and for them to go that extra mile to help is amazing,” she said.

Virgilia wished to thank Beauty and Patrick for always having a bright smile on their faces and for being so friendly. “They really made me feel special today, like I was the only customer in the store and for that, I want to say thank you, ” Virgilia said.

DisChem Platinum Park’s branch manager, Joost du Toit told Review that the wellbeing of their customers and customer service is of utmost importance.

“As a store and pharmacists who care, we encourage the staff  to take the extra time and we encourage our staff and management to instill a culture of caring. As I saw Patrick come back from the car which he parked right in front of the store for the client and assisted the customer to her car, I smiled and felt really proud of my staff who took the initiative in assisting the client, above and beyond their normal duties,” he said.

Du Toit added that to see the interaction between his staff and the customer made him proud of them.

“I thanked them and herewith would like to once again express my gratitude towards each staff member for what they have done. I saw all the social media reactions and people congratulating me and the store, but the thanks should go to all my staff who works together as a great team. This must however not be a once off thing, as we must always focus on customer services and on keeping the name of Dis-Chem high, it is important to have pride in your work and to keep our customers happy and to be available to our customers at all times,” he concluded.
