In a statement released, Ngoepe explained that on Sunday, 17 March, two suspects intruded the Rheiland building in Senwabarwana and upon noticing them, security officers called for assistance from their colleagues. Before anything could be stolen, the suspects began shooting randomly at the officers while fleeing from the scene.

“A team of investigators followed information received and the pair were arrested in different locations. During the arrest, one rifle and two explosives were recovered,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the Hoedspruit policing area, police arrested two suspects involved in two separate crime incidents in the area. Following information received, a 24-year-old man was arrested for a murder committed on Wednesday, 27 March. It is alleged that the suspect stabbed a 24 year-old man to death with a sharp instrument during a fight on a farm outside Hoedspruit.

In addition, a 42-year-old suspect was also arrested when police were following information about three suspects driving in a car who had committed a house robbery.

“The joint operation included various police units as well as the Farm Watch and a chase ensued when the vehicle was spotted. The suspects eventually stopped the car and fled on foot. One suspect was then nabbed while two others managed to escape. A manhunt for the remaining suspects continues,” he explained.

During this arrest, four plasma TVs, clothes, bed-covers, two laptops, one cellphone, wallets with bank cards, a balaclava, one firearm and six rounds of live ammunition were recovered in car, which is believed to be stolen. Ngoepe says the origin of the car will be determined by the ongoing police investigations and that the arrested suspects will appear before various magistrates’ courts, soon.
