Four armed robbers disguised as meter taxi drivers arrested near Botlokwa and Mahwelereng

The suspects would travel in a white Mazda 323 disguised as a meter taxi and would rob people at gunpoint while transporting them to their destinations.

LIMPOPO – A multi-disciplinary joint task team comprising of various police units in the Lephalale Cluster have arrested four armed robbery suspects on Monday, 25 March. The suspects, between the ages of 24 and 25-years-old are believed to be part of a syndicate which had been targeting certain communities for some time, says police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The task team conducted an operation which led to the arrest of two of the suspects in Ga-Dikgale village near Botlokwa and the other two were apprehended in Mahwelereng, outside Mokopane.

“The suspects would travel in a white Mazda 323 disguised as a meter taxi and would rob people at gunpoint while transporting them to their destinations. In some instances, some of the victims were forced to swipe their bank cards on a speed point machine the suspects had in their possession, transferring the money to their bank accounts,” Ngoepe explained.

He added that the suspects may be linked to similar cases in and around the Lephalale cluster and in other clusters.

“The suspects will appear before the Witpoort Magistrate’s Court, soon. Police are appealing to anyone who fell victim to this syndicate, to come forward. Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has commended the task team for a job well done.
