Fauna Park residents woke up to shocking news on Sunday morning when reports surfaced of the tragic death of yet another local teenage boy, Lesedi Kekana, 19.
The reportedly aspiring young musician from Fauna Park was allegedly pushed from the seventh floor of an apartment block in Arcadia Pretoria in the early hours of Saturday.
Information from the Sunnyside Police indicated that the first year sound engineering student engaged in an argument with two suspects and was later allegedly pushed from the seventh floor of The Wall apartment building. The deceased was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention where he died on the same day, according to Sunnyside Police Spokesperson Daniel Mavimbela. He added that two suspects, aged 23 and 27, were arrested the following day and were expected to be charged with murder.
Kekana’s aunt, Tebogo Kekana informed Polokwane Observer of the gruesome occurrence as she indicated that information at hand alleged that the two suspects, apparently brothers, were fighting the deceased but he did not retaliate. She added that Lesedi’s friends had witnessed the ordeal but were unable to help.
“After he had fallen from the seventh floor one of his friends rushed down to check up on him and according to the friend, he was still alive and had said to him ‘Ba nkhawatile’ (‘they hurt me’). The two friends are uncertain about the cause of the argument but said that one of the suspects had a knife,” the aunt explained.
She further stated that the family was awaiting a post-mortem report to reveal the cause of death. Lesedi was a passionate rapper who started rapping at the age of five and had recorded his fifth song when he was about eight years old, Kekana emphasised and reiterated that this convinced the family to allow him to pursue a career in music. He was a smart boy with a love and passion for what he does, she said, adding that the paramedics at the hospital told the family that Lesedi kept on telling them that he was going to be among the big names in the music industry in the future.
Kekana described the deceased as a humble and funny person: “All he wanted was to own a record label. He used to tell us that we will one day read about his career in the news. He considered himself as an international music star. He was just a wonderful person and I wish the world could have granted him a chance to live his dreams. He used to call himself Self-beast when he was young but changed his stage name to LK. This is very painful and we can’t seem to get to terms with his death.”
She went on to reveal that it would give them comfort if the culprits could get harsh sentences although it won’t bring Lesedi back.
Lesedi is survived by his mother Charmaine and brothers, Andile and Kamogelo. The funeral is planned for Saturday at Lesedi’s grandparents’ house in Mahwelereng, Mokopane.
The two suspects reportedly appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Mavimbela could not provide the outcome of the court by the time of going to print but Kekana indicated that the family was informed that the case was postponed to tomorrow (Friday) and the suspects were remanded in custody.
