POLOKWANE – The DA has since called on the Premier, Stanley Chupu Mathabatha, to recall the MEC.
According to a DA press statement, the MEC is said to have initiated a R1 million bribe from the Mvula Trust, which was contracted by the Department of Basic Education through a multi-million Rand tender to build toilets in schools in rural areas in Limpopo, the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga.
These allegations are said to be included in a confidential report compiled by independent auditors Nexia SAB&T which audited the financial affairs of the non-government organisation for the 2017/18 financial year.
DA Provincial Leader, Jacques Smalle, said the party has noted the criminal charge that was laid at the Polokwane Police Station.
“We will refer the matter to the Public Protector.The DA is committed to bringing real change that stops corruption and builds one South Africa for all.” On behalf of Kgetjepe, Sam Makondo, the Spokesperson for Education stated that the MEC didn’t demand or receive any money to influence the issuing of the tender: “The MEC was appointed to his position in 2015. At the time, the Mvula Trust had already been appointed to work in the province. It is not possible that he could have influenced the decision”.
