[WATCH] ‘My son’s video made the Polokwane police’s job easier, but he has become a target’
Against the backdrop of the murder on local resident Thoriso Themane, allegedly by a group of teenage boys, the community of Flora Park gathered for a meeting yesterday evening to voice their frustration with escalating crime in the area.
POLOKWANE – A meeting was held at Flora Park Comprehensive Primary School on Wednesday evening, 27 February in which the Flora Park community gathered to talk about the increase in crime in the neighbourhood.
The meeting was prompted by the brutal murder of Thoriso Themane over the past weekend.

Residents spoke out about the increase in gangsterism and hooliganism in the area and among those who spoke, was the mother of the learner who took the now, viral video of a learner appearing to admit his involvement in the attack.

In the video, the boy’s mother says she fears for her son’s life, as he has become a target since filming the son of a retired police officer. She has opened a case at the Polokwane Police Station and feels her son is not being protected, but instead, being victimised. She has pleaded for the community to assist in protecting her child, saying he had in fact, made the police’s job easier by identifying one of the perpetrators.
Another speaker at the meeting said residents have been the victim of the hooliganism among children of school-going age in the area. He added that even if the boys did something wrong, they know they’ll get away with what they’ve done because their parents are connected to the law.
Five learners were arrested on Tuesday, 26 February and they will appear in the Polokwane Magistrates Court this morning, facing a charge of murder.
